"Nightrider"

Isle of Appleshire Series

The is a "Nightrider", one who works for the village power company. They are the caretakers of the fireflies that are placed into the street lamps and the tall "claw-horns", the night creatures that they ride. These creatures,also known as "leaf eaters" are very gentle as long as they only come out at night. Their large eyes allow them to see the smallest detail in the dark but daylight is very painful. Their long legs enable them to eat the top, most tender, tree shoots and gives the rider the needed height to reach to the top of lamp posts.

"Phineas Bartleby"

Phineas, at the age of 325 yrs.,is one of the elder residents of the village of Earthgate. Like his father,Sam, he became a clock tinker and has been in the business of repairing and selling clocks in the village. He is a very orderly and overly persnickety which is probably why he is single. The exception to this is his unruly hair, so you will usually find him wearing his lizard skin top hat.
He is a full body sculpture of polymer- Prosculpt, mohair hair and hand painted eyes. He carries a back pack with leather straps (made by his mother,Flora) to hold the clock parts and a book with images of the newest clocks available for purchase and wears the tidiest handmade linen clothes.He also has a bit of arthritis now, so he walks with a cane.

This is not only the first art doll that I made but the first inhabitant that I met on the Isle of Appleshire. In the beginning I was experimenting with mediums, style and technique. I designed a stuffed linen body for her. The head, arms and legs are made of a polymer- Prosculpt and hand painted blue eyes. She rides a fish named Gobi. She is a "fishrider", a very special little being that lives in the village of Windpoole on the northern coast of the isle. The fish and wave are made of paper clay & mixed media. Her hair is made to look like seaweed and she carries a bag full of shells and a wood & shell water dipper she made for her mom.

"Tonk"

If you need something made of metal, just go to Tonk. He has followed his family tradition to be the third generation blacksmith for the past 120 years, living in the village of Earthgate. He is still single but from what I have heard, he has taken a fancy to Fiona Mae Figgle but she denies it.
His head and extremities are prosculpt clay with a soft stuffed body. He wears a wool shirt and knit pants. He has a leather apron to hold his metal and tools and worn out rabbit fur boots. His anvil and hammer are made of Aves Apoxie.

This was in the Summer 2008 issue of Art Doll Quarterly magazine with article of "The World of Appleshire".

This is Dittles, a green flit that lives near Whamp Marsh. Like most flits he is married and has three little flits. One of his most important jobs is to gather honey for his family. These are very long and tiring days of work as the most fragrant plants, with the best honey, often grow in some of the most dangerous areas near the swamp. On this particular day as he had been doing very well until he found a dragon egg, hidden in a small cave, that had just hatched. He became very disturbed by this and did not know what to think....would the baby wake and eat him or would its mother return and squash him? What to do?

"Windrider"

This was the cover of August 2008 issue of Doll Crafter & Costuming magazine.

Here is a rare view of a windrider (or Areonaut) from the mountainous area of Areoland. It is their way of life to build and fly a variety of unusual air machines. This is a young pilot testing out his newest magical creation. The creators of these machines usually have a gift of magical inheritance that allows their machines to have an interactive personality of a living creature or being.

Exposed parts are prosculpt clay with a soft stuffed body and glass eyes. He is wearing his leather cap, goggles that can be moved over eyes or taken off,a cotton knit shirt and leather vest. His machine is made from two gourds, aves apoxie, a lichen tail and rolls on a set of cork wheels. It has red leather interior with clock dial and levers on the dash and the wings are metal and bark paper.

"Ludwig Von Smyth"

Ludwig is a very creative fellow who loves music. He moved to Earthgate from the mountains of Areoland on the southern edge of the island. He spends most of his time on the streets of the village with his magical organ music machine that was built by a mystical wizard. One of the results of this is that the music can be used to calm dangerous beasts and used to its fullest can put them to sleep. The magic only works when Ludwig use it, so this makes him a valuable asset to the village. He has been called away, to other locations sometimes,to aid someone in danger.

"Hyden Peake"

Hyden Peake is really a young little elf. Although she is young she already created a job position in the village. She decided that she wanted to be the Easter Bunny. This occurred because she loves bunnies so much that she made a suit of ears and tail but she is so obsessed about it that she wears it year round. In fact, she thinks that, when she is in costume, she actually becomes a rabbit. She has a very persistent attitude about this and is working to make Easter be an everyday job.
Exposed parts are prosculpt clay with a soft stuffed body. She is wearing her favorite outfit of white knit pants, pink knit jacket and of course her rabbit fur ears and tail. She has beautiful blond mohair hair and very detailed big bare feet, because she hates shoes.

"Margaret Noteworthy"

Margaret is the village records keeper. At her ripe ol'age of 395 yrs, she is the one to ask if you want to know about anyone. She keeps all the records, including the census, village news, supplies and repairs. She is very sweet but
everybody knows she is also a bit of a "nipper" (keeps a good bottle of her favorite booze, under her desk)so, .
Her head, extremities and her leaf shoes with buttons are prosculpt clay with a soft stuffed body. She has a pink linen top and colorful knit socks and flowered cotton skirt. She sits on a gourd chair behind a wood desk that holds all of her work items. There is a little hard bound book, ink well, a list of supplies and a list of repairs.
